Bambu Lab R1: the 55 W CO₂ laser has arrived

1 min read

On September 22, Bambu Lab introduced its first standalone laser machine: the R1 uses a 55 W CO₂ laser, offers a 600×300 mm working area and automatic laser alignment.

The Bambu Lab R1 is no longer a teaser: on September 22, Bambu Lab officially introduced its first standalone CO₂ laser engraver and cutter.

The announced specifications include a 55 W CO₂ laser and a 600×300 mm working area. The system also features automatic laser alignment and optical/camera-based calibration functions. Bambu highlights wood, acrylic, glass, leather and textiles among the supported material classes.

A second manufacturing process alongside 3D printing

For 3DPS, the important point is not that the R1 is a 3D printer—it is not—but that Bambu Lab is adding a dedicated CO₂ cutting and engraving platform alongside additive manufacturing.

The launch material also describes automatic feeding for longer workpieces and safety features for the enclosed laser workspace. Safety classification and accessory-dependent configurations should be checked for the exact regional setup.

Bambu Lab: construction advances on a planned 3-million-printer Shenzhen hub

Bambu Lab is taking a major step toward building one of the world's largest 3D printer manufacturing bases. Its planned “3D Printing Intelligent Manufacturing Headquarters Base” in Shenzhen's Guangming District has moved into site-preparation and construction-access work. The complex is designed for an annual capacity of more than 3 million 3D printers and will combine manufacturing with research and development, component production and materials-related activities.
