Support Fins: Breakaway Supports Baked Directly into the STL

1 min read

An open-source browser tool adds breakaway “fins” to overhangs directly in the geometry, allowing the resulting model to be sliced with supports disabled.

The support is not generated by the slicer

Support Fins takes a different approach from conventional slicer supports: the support geometry is baked directly into the STL or 3MF model. On printfins.com, users can load a model, inspect overhangs and place support fins against suitable faces.

Automatic assistance and manual placement

The browser tool provides overhang analysis, orientation assistance and manual fin placement. Users can adjust material and fin parameters, layer height and support gap.

What goes into the file?

According to the project description, exported STL/3MF files contain geometry only. The fins therefore become part of the model rather than depending on a particular slicer profile.

The source code is available on GitHub.

Anycubic Kobra 3 toolhead – successful firmware backup and the first steps toward a CAN-based Klipper toolboard

Anycubic Kobra 3 Toolhead Project – Another Milestone: Successful Firmware Backup and Preparing for a CAN-Based Toolboard Today marked another major milestone in the Anycubic Kobra 3 Toolhead project. Our objective is not to modify or preserve the original firmware. Instead, we are developing a completely custom firmware that will transform the factory controller board into a Klipper-compatible CAN Tool MCU with only minimal hardware modifications.
